About Volunteering
Volunteering at St. Mary's Hospital provides a unique experience filled with fellowship, camaraderie and the satisfaction of providing good help to those in need.
We are a neighborhood hospital with a rich history. Some of our volunteers have been with us for over 40 years. In fact, our oldest volunteer, at 101, has been with us for over 37 years and given 26,764 hours of service.
By volunteering with us, you will not only be working to help your community but joining the St. Mary's family and making St. Mary's connections with our patients and tremendously talented staff.
Volunteering Requirements
We invite anyone 15 years or older to be a volunteer with us. While there is no hourly commitment for adult volunteers, people under the age of 18 must commit to at least 50 hours per year. Weekend hours are available from 8:30 a.m. - 5p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Our evening hours go until 8p.m.
There are many different types of opportunities to choose from, and we are happy to work with you to find the perfect job to fit your passion. The following is just a sample of the types of openings we have:

How to Become a Volunteer
We are excited about your interest in volunteering and hope to make the process as simple as possible.
- Complete and submit the online application.
- Bon Secours Richmond completes the reference check.
- The volunteer completes TB testing and obtains an ID badge while Bon Secours Richmond conducts a background check.
- The volunteer receives staff training and a schedule.
