Bon Secours joined community leaders and elected officials today to celebrate the grand opening of the Bon Secours Women’s Imaging, Portsmouth, with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The new facility, located at 5600 Portsmouth Blvd in the Elmhurst Square Shopping Center, is the first dedicated women’s imaging center in the City of Portsmouth.

The center reflects Bon Secours’ continued investment in addressing disparities in health care and expanding access to essential health services in the Southside communities of Hampton Roads. It will provide mammography, breast ultrasound, breast biopsy, and bone density testing in a setting designed to offer compassionate, timely, and personalized care for women.

“Until now, women in Portsmouth had to leave their city to access routine screenings like mammograms, which caused many to delay care,” said Pat Davis-Hagens, market president, Bon Secours – Hampton Roads. “This new imaging center removes a major barrier to early detection brings quality, compassionate care closer to home for women throughout this community.”

The opening of this dedicated women’s imaging center is especially significant given that Portsmouth has the highest breast cancer mortality rate in the Hampton Roads region. By establishing a local option for screening and diagnosis, Bon Secours aims to support earlier detection, better outcomes, and peace of mind for women and their families.

“This is more than a new facility. It’s a space thoughtfully designed just for women, recognizing their unique needs and reinforcing that their health matters,” said Alayna Johnson, imaging director, Bon Secours Hampton Roads. “Too often, women put everyone else’s needs before their own health. By removing barriers to preventative care, we’re helping women in Portsmouth prioritize themselves, offering a place where they can receive care with empathy, dignity, and clinical excellence.”
