Bon Secours Virginia provides a sanctuary for women being treated for cancers of the reproductive organs. These can include cervical, uterine, and ovarian tumors. Our staff understands the unique needs of cancer patients and how these affect diagnosis, treatment and recovery. So, if you need this care, then you and your family will find strong support and sound treatment at our facilities.
From the start, you will have a patient navigator – an advocate who will help you during care. Besides treatment, we also provide screening and diagnosis services. Our surgeons work in teams and are highly skilled as individuals. They are adept at many procedures, including robotic and advanced laparoscopic surgery. The latter avoids large incisions by using tiny ones. Minimally invasive surgeries can reduce pain, infection, complications, and hospital stay. In some cases, however, open surgery may be needed.
After surgery, and sometimes before, radiation therapy and/or chemotherapy are often prescribed. Radiation is targeted energy that can destroy cancer cells and reduce symptoms. Chemotherapy also may be given intravenously or intraperitoneally. The latter is a new technique that delivers medicine to the abdominal cavity. In some cases, this is more effective because it allows more powerful dosages.
Physicians and staff are also available after cancer care to talk, plan, manage pain, or discuss follow-up and long-term options. Please call on us at any time. We always are available to you and your family for all your needs. We understand a cancer diagnosis is fraught with emotion, and we take your mental health just as seriously as your physical health. We always are here to support both you and your family.
