Bon Secours Hospital Receives Top Honor for Cardiac Services
Memorial Regional Medical Center Ranked #1 in Virginia for Heart Care and Coronary Interventions
MECHANICSVILLE, Va. (Oct. 20, 2010) – Bon Secours Memorial Regional Medical Center is ranked number one in Virginia for overall cardiac services and for coronary interventions, according to a comprehensive annual study released this week by HealthGrades, the leading independent health care ratings organization.
The Mechanicsville hospital scored highly in several other specialty areas, according to the study, including ranking among the top five percent of hospitals nationally for critical care, such intensive care unit treatment and stroke care. Additionally, the hospital’s quality was rated among the top 10 percent of hospitals nationally for pulmonary care. The hospital’s awards include:

- Critical Care Excellence Award™
- Pulmonary Care Excellence Award™
- Stroke Care Excellence Award™

In addition, the medical center was given a five-star rating, which means mortality or complication rates are below the national average to a statistically significant degree, in the following areas:
- Coronary Artery Bypass Graft surgery
- Coronary Interventions – angioplasty and stent procedures
- Treatment of Heart Attack
- Treatment of Heart Failure
- Stroke Treatment
- Treatment of Pneumonia
- Treatment of Sepsis (infection of the blood stream)
- Treatment of Pulmonary Embolism (blood clot in the lungs)
- Treatment of Respiratory Failure
- Treatment of Bowel Obstruction
Earlier this year, Bon Secours Memorial Regional Medical Center was recognized by HealthGrades as a recipient of the Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence™. This award recognizes hospitals that have scored among the top five percent of all hospitals nationally for overall quality of care across 26 common procedures and diagnoses.
