Bon Secours Richmond Contracts with Red Cross for Blood Services
Red Cross now supplies blood to all of Bon Secours Virginia
Jan. 10, 2013 – Bon Secours Richmond Health System has entered into a partnership with the American Red Cross Mid-Atlantic Blood Services Region making the Red Cross the sole supplier of blood products for the health system. Bon Secours Richmond is comprised of St. Mary’s Hospital, Memorial Regional Medical Center, Richmond Community Hospital and St. Francis Medical Center.
This partnership is not new to either organization. The Red Cross has been serving the hospitals and clinics of Bon Secours Hampton Roads for over 35 years.
“Partnering with the American Red Cross is clearly a great benefit for Bon Secours,” said Peter Bernard, CEO, Bon Secours Virginia. “The American Red Cross has a long-standing reputation for integrity, service and innovation. Our like missions make this partnership a perfect fit.” The Red Cross operates as a community blood services center with a nationwide reach. Once local needs have been met, the Red Cross has a unique opportunity as the only nationwide blood supply center to provide patients throughout the United States with blood needs. The Red Cross Mid-Atlantic Blood Services Region serves more than 90 hospitals throughout the region.
“We are delighted to expand our partnership with Bon Secours by adding Richmond to the area that the Red Cross currently serves,” said Page Gambill, CEO of the Red Cross Mid-Atlantic Blood Services Region. “We look forward to ensuring that the blood needs are met for the Richmond community, and I urge residents of Richmond and the surrounding counties to donate blood at area Red Cross blood drives in order to keep a reliable blood supply for local patients and hospitals.”
Every two seconds, someone in the United States needs blood. Blood is used for premature infants; people battling sickle cell anemia, leukemia and cancer; trauma patients; and many other life-threatening conditions. Blood can be donated every 56 days or six times a year.
