Bon Secours Richmond Named Among Nation's “Most Wired” Hospital Systems
Bon Secours Richmond Health System has been nationally recognized by Hospitals & Health Networks magazine as among 215 “Most Wired” health organizations for its use of health information technology to improve overall performance. This is the second consecutive year that Bon Secours Richmond has received the Most Wired recognition, conducted by the Health Forum and the American Hospital Association. The survey results are published in the July issue of H&HN magazine.
Bon Secours was among 662 respondents, representing 1,570 hospitals or 27 percent of hospitals nationwide, to be measured on implementation of information technology in four critical areas, including infrastructure; business and administrative management; clinical quality and safety; and clinical integration.
“Bon Secours has made significant investments in information technology as a means of improving clinical outcomes and efficiency, and I am pleased to see this effort being recognized,” said Peter J. Bernard, CEO of Bon Secours Virginia Health System. “We are committed to improving the care patients receive today through advanced technology, both in electronic medical records and in diagnostics. Better quality care and outcomes are achieved through best practices, consistency, and careful patient management, and our technology is enabling us to achieve this.”
The 2012 Most Wired Survey found that 93 percent of Most Wired organizations are implementing more sophisticated IT security systems to protect patient privacy and patient data. All are using IT systems to check drug interactions and allergies when medications are ordered as a major step in reducing medication errors. Bon Secours has implemented ConnectCare, an advanced electronic health record system, at its four Richmond area hospitals and ambulatory care practices comprised of more than 200 physicians, as well as MyChart, giving patients access to their medical records both online and through a smart phone application.
The 2012 Most Wired Survey is conducted in cooperation with McKesson Corporation, the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME), and the American Hospital Association.
