Caring for Our Nurses: Moving Nursing Forward.

Our Message.

"A message from Jill Kennedy, Chief Nurse Executive and VP of Patient Care"

Destination Excellence is our nursing quest for providing the best patient care for our community. Our caring and compassionate nurses are committed to delivering expert patient care and were recognized nationally by Health Grades with the 2007-2008 Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence. Memorial Regional nurses are committed to the health of the community outside our hospital walls. Participation in health fairs, community seminars, disaster planning and volunteer community care through the Bon Secours Care-a-Van are a part of our mission. Let us know how we can assist in your next community event. Please feel free to call us at 804/764-7565. Taking care of our staff is a top priority so they can take the best care of our patients. We provide flexible schedules, on-site day care and innovative programs for our working parents. Our efforts have been recognized nationally. For nine years Bon Secours Richmond has been recognized by Working Mother Magazine as one of the top 100 family-friendly companies. Also, AARP has listed us as a top company for workers over the age of fifty. As the Chief Nurse Executive of Bon Secours Memorial Regional Medical Center, I am committed to the future of nursing at Memorial. A critical component of our future is ensuring an adequate supply of highly trained and dedicated health care providers in our community. Through our school of nursing, middle school medical explorer’s camp program, and public relations campaign, Bon Secours Memorial is at the forefront of promoting the profession of nursing in the Richmond community. We are your community hospital and we are here for you.

Memorial Regional Medical Center Philosophy of Nursing

We believe:

Mission and Values
Our service to our patients demonstrates clinical excellence, compassion, caring, trust and respect for human dignity. We provide holistic care that recognizes the uniqueness of each patient. Our nursing philosophy is based on our Bon Secours Mission, Vision and Values and Jean Watson’s Caring Theory. Patients and families are our top priority.

Knowledge and Evidence
Knowledge Empowers. Nursing is committed to maintenance of competency and skill. Nursing is committed to embracing innovation, technology, and lifelong learning. Quality nursing care is achieved and sustained through autonomous practice, implementation of evidence based practice and continual contribution to the profession’s body of knowledge through research.

Global Partnerships
We are blessed with many partners in the work that we do. Partnerships with multiple levels of caregivers, ancillary staff, administration and physicians allow for collaborative practice that benefits those we serve. Global partnerships celebrate the cultural diversity of our staff, patients and community. We also partner with those around the world through mission.

Safety & Comfort
Safety and comfort are fundamentals of quality nursing care. Nursing's primary role has always been that of patient protector, and advocate. Ensuring our healthcare system is able to continue to provide safe efficient and cost effective care will require that nurses participate in designing the future of healthcare. Our nurses are engaged and committed to the task.

Caring
Caring for one another is essential to our mission. Teamwork and belonging create support and encouragement for team members. A safe work environment, work-life balance, justice and equality and an opportunity to contribute are essential elements in caring for one another that ultimately result in better quality of care for our patients.
