Bon Secours Richmond Hospitals Named Among Nation’s Best by HealthGrades
Cardiac Surgery and Obstetrics Receive Accolades from Hospital Quality Rating Company
RICHMOND, Va. - (Nov. 7, 2011) – Richmond’s Bon Secours St. Mary’s Hospital and Memorial Regional Medical Center were named among the best hospitals in the nation by hospital quality ratings company HealthGrades. In a recently released report, HealthGrades named St. Mary’s and Memorial Regional recipients of the Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence and highlighted cardiac surgery and obstetrics as areas of excellence for Bon Secours Richmond overall.
St. Mary’s Hospital was named number one in Virginia for cardiac surgery. The hospital was five-star rated for coronary bypass surgery, treatment of heart attack and treatment of heart failure. HealthGrades ranked Memorial Regional number one in Virginia for overall cardiac services and gave the hospital five stars for cardiology services, coronary bypass surgery, treatment of heart attack and treatment of heart failure.
Women’s Health Achievements
St. Mary’s received five stars for gynecologic surgery and Memorial Regional received five stars for overall women’s health. Memorial Regional is also the recipient of the HealthGrades Women’s Health Excellence Award and was ranked among the top five percent in the nation for women’s health.

The HealthGrades report found that patients treated at a five-star rated hospital experience a 73 percent lower risk of mortality and a 63 percent lower risk of complications compared to a one-star rated hospital.
