Dr. Fred J. McGlynn specializes in joint replacement of the shoulder, hip and knee and is a member of the Joint Replacement Team at Tuckahoe Orthopaedics. He received his medical degree from the University of Virginia. After completing his internship and residency at the University of Iowa, he was awarded a fellowship in adult reconstruction and children’s orthopaedics, also at the University of Iowa.
Dr. McGlynn and his medical staff treat adult patients with hip, knee and shoulder problems resulting from arthritis, injuries and trauma. He performs over 400 total joint replacements of the knee, hip, and shoulder each year. He serves as an associate clinical professor at Medical College of Virginia. He also teaches orthopaedic physicians participating in the Adult Reconstruction Fellowship Program at MCV.
Dr. McGlynn has a passion for mission work and has traveled all over the world to help children and adults in need. He’s the cofounder of Salva Vida Medical Foundation. This foundation is devoted to saving lives through mission trips to impoverished countries. More recently, he’s organized and participated in numerous trips to Haiti since the January 2010 earthquake.
Sports have always been important to Dr. McGlynn. He played soccer while attending the University of Virginia. He continues to play competitive tennis. He also enjoys hiking and spending time with his family, which now includes three grandchildren.
