Dr. John F. Meyers specializes in treatment of patients with knee, elbow and shoulder injuries. He is a member of the Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy Team at Tuckahoe Orthopaedics. He received his medical degree from Ohio State University. He completed both his internship and residency at Washington University in St. Louis, MO. He is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
Dr. Meyers’ patients range from the younger athlete with traumatic sports injuries to the more mature patient with repetitive injuries. He also treats injured workers. The majority of injuries can be treated with rehabilitation, but will occasionally require minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery.
Dr. Meyers is active in the Arthroscopy Association of North America and previously served as President. He has devoted much time to research that has resulted in numerous improvements in treatments and surgical techniques, especially for shoulder arthroscopy.
Dr. Meyers has a passion for sports and supporting young athletes. He served as head physician for the XVII Winter Olympic Games in Lillehammer, Norway. He is an active member of Special Olympics Virginia and currently serves on the board of directors. He has been the team physician at Randolph-Macon College for over 30 years. Dr. Meyers also enjoys training the next generation of surgeons. He serves as the Fellowship Director of the Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy Fellowship with Orthopaedic Research of Virginia. He has helped over 100 physicians improve their surgical and diagnostic skills. Dr. Meyers is married and has three children and five grandchildren. In his free time, he enjoys playing golf, fishing and hanging out with his grandchildren.
