Before Children & Birth
Education for expectant parents
Prenatal Classes
  • Discount on "Love and Learn" classes on prenatal health, breast feeding and parenting; hospital tours
Adoption Benefits
  • Legal assistance; up to $3,500 to be used as needed for adoptions
Leave for Mothers and Fathers
  • Eligible employees receive up to 12 weeks partially-paid, and an additional 14 weeks of leave if medically necessary; first three days fully paid by Bon Secours
Breast feeding Room
  • Private room for mothers who are pumping milk or breast feeding babies; lactation specialist available to help with problems
Children
Child Care Through the Family Center
  • Offered on-site at 3 hospitals, including Saturdays; hours to accommodate varying shifts and schedules; for children 6 weeks and older; fees determined by parent's schedule
  • Back-up/drop-in child care; on a space-available basis, in cases of extreme weather or when normal child care arrangements fall through; with pre-registration, for employees who do not use Bon Secours child care services on a regular basis
  • Babysitting nights; activities, parties, crafts for infants up to age 12; offered periodically on Saturday nights, for those registered at the Family Center
  • School vacation camps; variety of programs offered to school-age children up to age 12; during winter, spring and summer breaks
Sick Child Care
  • Employee discounts at "The Get Well Place," an outside facility for children with temporary illnesses; discounts on home health care for sick children
After-school Care
  • Time for children to work on homework; planned and independent activities, inside and out; afternoon snack; extended evening hours
Full-day Kindergarten
  • Located on-site at St. Mary's Hospital, for children 5 years old by November
Educational Assessment
  • Individual evaluation of a child's learning issues
Sibling Classes
  • To help 2-12 year-olds get along with their brothers and sisters
Resource and Referral Services
  • Assistance in finding and assessing local child care programs; literature and information on a wide array of parenting issues

Teen Volunteer Program
  • After one full summer of volunteer work at the Family Center, teens age 13-15 can then volunteer afternoons during the school year or after school has closed; hours coordinated with parent's work schedule
Summer Classes and Field Trips
  • Non-academic subjects of interest to 9-15 year-olds; 1-4 day classes change yearly, but have included cartooning, jewelry-making, and healthy lifestyles; class fee includes meals
Career Days
  • Information about healthcare careers, including hospital tour and pointers on resumes, applications, and interviews; for 9-15 year-olds
College Students
For children and grandchildren of employees
Virginia College Savings Program
  • Payroll deduction plan to save for tuition at any Virginia college, no matter what the cost of tuition at the time the student enters; savings may also be credited toward tuition at an out-of-state college
College Fair
  • Annual event which offers information about Virginia colleges, admissions standards, financial aid and scholarships
Sons and Daughters Scholarships
  • Ten $1,000 scholarships given annually to high school seniors, college freshmen or sophomores; competitive, based on merit
Grandparent Scholarships
  • Five $1,000 scholarships given annually to high school seniors, college freshmen or sophomores; competitive, based on merit

  • Assistance in finding and evaluating local eldercare programs
Independent and Assisted Living
  • Discounts on Independent Living at Summerhill Retirement Community; discounts on Assisted Living and respite care at Ironbridge Retirement Community
In-home Nursing Care
  • For elderly family members with physical or mental impairments; discount of 50% on private-duty nurses for up to ten days per calendar year
Care-giving Workshops
  • Information, tips and resources for reducing stress, creating balance, and preventing burnout in caregivers
Senior Navigator
  • One-on-one assistance in using this website, which offers many community resources for the elderly
Eldercare Financial Help
  • Flexible spending account allows withholding of pre-tax dollars for full-time care of disabled elderly relatives
