With the installation of our GE Essential Digital Mammography equipment, we can provide you with the latest in breast imaging and our physicians the greatest view of the breast for diagnosis. Our digital mammography equipment is certified by the American College of Radiology (ACR) and the FDA through the Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA), thereby ensuring we are providing high quality care for mammography.
Digital mammograms are beneficial for all women, especially for those under 50 and those with dense breast tissue. Bon Secours follows the American Cancer Society recommendations of getting yearly screening mammograms beginning at age 40.
Some important information about your mammogram:
- Our skilled staff are certified technologists by American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, ARRT, and are licensed in the state of Maryland to perform mammography.
- Your images will be read by board certified Radiologists who specialize in diagnosing diseases and injuries through medical imaging.
- A doctor’s order is not required for screening mammograms. However, we must have a referring doctor to send your results to for follow up care if needed.
- You will be asked to change into a gown before your examination. Please do not wear deodorant the day of your examination.
