How Do We Determine Your Price
How Much Will My Procedure or Hospital Stay Cost?
We understand that it is important to know how much you will be responsible for paying for your medical care. Because each patient and situation is unique, the cost of care is not always the same.
Some variables that can affect the cost include:
- How long you stay in the hospital
- How many and what type of supplies are used
- How much and what type of medication is given
- How often lab work is needed and what type of tests are performed
- How many radiology exams are needed and what type
- What type of anesthesia is used
- Any changes to the original care plan.
Can I Get a Price Estimate?
Yes. Bon Secours provides out of pocket cost estimates as a service to our patients. We will give you a range of what the costs usually are for your condition or procedure. Please keep in mind that these are estimates, and that exact costs often vary.
Your estimate will include everything involved in your care during your stay, with the exception of doctor fees.
Doctors who take care of you during your stay will send you separate bills. Examples of types of doctors who send separate bills include: the doctor who admitted you to the hospital, your surgeon, the anesthesiologist who managed your anesthesia, the radiologist who interpreted the results of your imaging scans, the pathologist who interpreted the results of your lab work, any hospitalist or specialist physicians who may have been consulted for your care, and others. These physician fees are not part of the estimate you receive from Bon Secours and will be additional charges.
Before You Call for Your Estimate
Please have the following ready:
- A pen and paper.
- Your procedure code or CPT code. Your doctor’s office can give you this code.
- Your insurance card, if insured.
If You Have Health Insurance
Please consider contacting your insurance company before you call for an estimate. Your insurance company can give you details about your insurance benefits. They can let you know what services are covered, what physicians are considered in-network, any exclusions you need to be aware of, and whether or not you have met your deductible and/or out-of-pocket maximum for the year. Knowing this information can help us give you a more accurate estimate.
If You Do Not Have Health Insurance
Those without health insurance will not be billed more than the average insurance reimbursement we receive from our insured patients. This reflects our mission to bring Good Help to Those in Need®.
