Three Bon Secours hospitals recognized by AHA/ASA’s Get With The Guidelines Initiative

Bon Secours announced today that all of its hospitals in Hampton Roads have received an award from the American Heart Association & American Stroke Association (AHA/ASA)’s Get With The Guidelines Quality Achievement Awards for Stroke Care. This prestigious award recognizes Bon Secours’ commitment to ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines based on the latest scientific evidence.

This year, the Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award was given to Bon Secours Mary Immaculate Hospital in Newport News, Va. Gold Plus includes hospitals that have achieved 85 percent higher compliance with all Get with the Guidelines (GWTG) Stroke Achievement Measures and 75 percent of higher compliance with five or more GWTG Stroke Quality Measures for two or more consecutive years.

In addition, Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center in Portsmouth, Va., and Bon Secours DePaul Medical Center in Norfolk, Va., received the Gold Plus with Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite Award. Stroke Honor Roll Elite is awarded for achieving thrombolytic therapy in less than or at least 60 minutes for 75 percent and less than or at least 45 minutes for 50 percent or more of applicable acute ischemic stroke patients to improve quality of patient care and outcomes. This is the third time DePaul Medical Center and the fourth time Maryview Medical Center have been recognized for these accomplishments.

“Providing quality stroke care at each of our hospitals is a critical need,” said Kim Warren, administrative director, neurosciences services, Bon Secours Hampton Roads. “We are excited to receive recognition from the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines program, and will continue to strive to deliver the best stroke care possible.”
