Bon Secours Hampton Roads is pleased to announce that Ramon Matawaran, MD, has joined Patient Choice Oceana.
Matawaran is a board-certified physician in internal medicine who has been in practice for 30 years. He received his medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) in Norfolk, Virginia. Matawaran completed an internship and a residency at Eastern Virginia Graduate School of Medicine in Norfolk, Virginia. He also served as chief resident at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. He subsequently completed a certificate program in medical informatics from Oregon Health & Science University and a certificate program in genomics and genetics from Stanford University. He also completed a pharmacogenetics training program through Stanford University and the American Medical Informatics Association.
Prior to joining Bon Secours, Matawaran practiced in both outpatient and inpatient settings and acted as preceptor for both medical and physician assistant students. He was part of the clinical faculty at EVMS and the Medical University of South Carolina. Matawaran has special interests in personalized medicine, pharmacogenetics, complex medical care, and men’s health and wellness. He is a member of the American Medical Association and the Personalized Medicine Coalition. He has received several professional awards and recognitions including Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, Coastal Virginia Top Docs and Virginia Living Top Doctors. Matawaran is fluent in English and Tagalog.
