The Kentucky Chamber of Commerce and the Kentucky Society for Human Resource Management (KYSHRM) have named OLBH among the 100 companies that have made the 14th Annual Best Places to Work in Kentucky list. It is the third consecutive year OLBH has made the list.
OLBH, a member of the Bon Secours Kentucky Health System, was one of only eight hospitals in the state to make the annual list. The winner rankings will be announced at an awards dinner in April. For the third straight year, OLBH was named to the Best Places to Work in Kentucky list in the large-sized employer category. Only 32 companies were chosen in the large-sized employer category.
Winners from across the state are selected in three categories: small companies of 15-149 employees, medium companies of 150-499 employees and large companies consisting of more than 500 employees. The selection process, managed by Best Companies Group, is based on an assessment of the company’s employee policies and procedures and the results of an internal employee survey. At OLBH, 350 employees were randomly selected to be surveyed.
“To make the list is quite the honor, but to stay on the list for three years shows that our employees across our health system find their work environment to be positive,” said OLBH CEO Kevin Halter. “We have more than 1,400 employees and each year a different subset of that number has been randomly chosen by outside parties to take a survey. So I think I’m most proud of the fact that it has now been three different groups of employees who have placed us on this list. Really, it’s our entire workforce whose efforts on behalf of patients and their pride in OLBH that produces the working conditions that make this award possible.”
The competition is a multi-year initiative designed to motivate companies in the Commonwealth to focus, measure and move their workplace environments toward excellence. Numerous studies show a strong correlation between profitability and creating a good place to work. The Best Places to Work in Kentucky initiative is based on FORTUNE magazine’s “100 Best Companies to Work for in America” list.
OLBH Vice President of Human Resources Judy Daniels said that the hospital strives to provide employees with benefits that improve both the workplace and the employees themselves. “From onsite fitness facilities that employees can use at a reduced cost to massage services and free smoking cessation classes, the benefits we offer are popular with employees and make the hospital a place people enjoy coming to work,” Daniels said.
The KYSHRM organization consists of 14 local chapters throughout the Commonwealth, with membership of human resources and business professionals across all industries. The Kentucky Chamber of Commerce is the only business association in the state advocating for companies of all sizes and industries across the Commonwealth. The Kentucky Chamber represents 3,800 member businesses – from family-owned shops to Fortune 500 companies – that employ over half of the Commonwealth’s workforce.
