Drivers Needed for Meals on Wheels Routes

Thursday, March 8, 2018

OLBH is in need of volunteers to drive the hospital’s Meals on Wheels routes serving Bellefonte, Flatwoods, Raceland, Russell and Westwood.

“Meals on Wheels exists to provide for those who have food needs they can not meet without the assistance of a delivered meal,” Mary Ellen Conley, OLBH Senior Services coordinator, said. “Drivers only need to drive once a month, so for those that can spare a couple of hours Meals on Wheels offers a rewarding experience. Our drivers are providing a great service for their neighbors and receive immense gratitude from our clients. Many of those we serve would not be able to stay in their own homes without the assistance this program provides.”

Volunteer drivers are asked to drive during lunch hours only one day a month for about two hours. Drivers use their own vehicles and fuel. OLBH assists with meals being delivered five days a week to elderly or disabled people with food being prepared by a variety of vendors.
