Bon Secours Memorial Regional Medical Center recently held a hospital evacuation disaster drill. The drill involved both internal and external resources to mitigate the incident. Hospital staff followed hospital procedures, physically moved patients while providing care and established Hospital Command. External resources included Hanover Fire and EMS and the Central Virginia All Hazards Incident Management Team (CVAHIMT). Hanover Fire and EMS established initial command and operational management of the incident. CVAHIMT then established long-term command and management of the incident. Resources on-scene included Hanover Fire and EMS’s Mobile Command Post, CVAHIMT’s Mobile Command Post and Chesterfield Fire and EMS’s Medical Services Unit (MCI/Rehab Vehicle). This was the first time in the Central Virginia Region that both internal and external resources actively engaged each other to manage a hospital evacuation disaster.
