Bon Secours St. Francis Health System has been recognized as a Best Hospital for 2019-20 by U.S. News & World Report. Together, the health system’s two hospital campuses – St. Francis Eastside & St. Francis Downtown - were ranked 2nd in the state of South Carolina and first for the Greenville, SC area.
The annual Best Hospitals rankings and ratings, now in their 30th year, are designed to assist patients and their doctors in making informed decisions about where to receive care for challenging health conditions or for common elective procedures.
“Bon Secours St. Francis Health System is honored to receive this recognition by US News & World Report in its best hospitals listings,” says Matt Caldwell, the Greenville Market President for Bon Secours. “It speaks to the quality, compassionate care the physicians, nurses, and clinical staff provide to our patients day in and day out. This is an honor for all of us.”
For the 2019-20 rankings and ratings, U.S. News evaluated more than 4,500 medical centers nationwide in 25 specialties, procedures and conditions. In the 16 specialty areas, 165 hospitals were ranked in at least one specialty. In rankings by state and metro area, U.S. News recognized hospitals as high performing, the highest rating for adult specialties and common adult procedures or conditions of care.
Bon Secours St. Francis Health System earned high performing ratings for common adult procedure and conditions in abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), colon cancer surgery, heart bypass surgery, heart failure, as well as hip and knee replacements. These rating are recognition of care that was significantly better than the national average, as measured by factors such as patient outcomes.
The U.S. News Best Hospitals methodologies in most areas of care are based largely on objective measures such as risk-adjusted survival and discharge-to-home rates, volume, and quality of nursing, among other care-related indicators.
