Portsmouth, VA — October 16, 2024 — Bon Secours is proud to announce the 2025 opening of the Bon Secours Portsmouth Women’s Imaging Center, the first dedicated women’s imaging facility in the Portsmouth community. Located on Portsmouth Blvd in the Elmhurst Square Shopping Center, the state-of-the-art facility will provide vital breast health services, including mammograms, breast ultrasounds, breast biopsies, and bone density testing.
Currently, women in Portsmouth must travel to neighboring cities such as Suffolk, Norfolk, Chesapeake, or Virginia Beach to receive mammograms, placing an additional burden on those seeking timely care. Portsmouth has the highest breast cancer mortality rate in the Hampton Roads area, a fact that underscores the urgent need for local, accessible screening options. The Portsmouth Women’s Imaging Center will bridge this gap, offering high-quality mammography services and more, close to home. This vital facility will ensure that women no longer must travel outside their community for care, promoting earlier detection and better outcomes for breast cancer patients.
Designed with Women in Mind
The new imaging center is conveniently located along the City of Portsmouth’s public transportation line. The facility’s spa-style design features two waiting rooms, private dressing rooms, and a comfortable consultation room for personalized conversations with the center’s fellowship-trained breast radiologists, from the Medical Center Radiologist group. All imaging equipment will be brand new, ensuring the latest advancements in breast health technology.
Access for All Women
The Bon Secours Portsmouth Women’s Imaging Center will serve both insured and uninsured patients. Uninsured women can visit the nearby Community Health Hub for a referral to receive services. Additionally, Bon Secours is partnering with the Virginia Department of Health and the American Cancer Society (ACS) to provide support services, such as transportation assistance for those needing help getting to and from their appointments.
“We are thrilled to bring this much-needed resource to Portsmouth,” said Alayna Johnson, DHSC, MPH, Director of Imaging Services, Bon Secours Hampton Roads. “The Portsmouth Women’s Imaging Center is not only about providing the latest breast imaging technology, but it’s about giving the women in this community a convenient, compassionate, and high-quality experience.”
The Bon Secours Portsmouth Women’s Imaging Center represents a transformative step in addressing breast health disparities in the region. By bringing essential services to the area, Bon Secours remains committed to improving the health and well-being of women in Portsmouth.
