Bon Secours Richmond is proud to now offer the latest in full body, low-dose radiation medical imaging to our patients and community across the region. EOSedge can perform orthopedic images, including full-length spinal exams and weight-bearing long bone images, in several functional positions and produce 2D and 3D images at a fraction of the typical radiation doses required of a standard X-ray. This new system allows for undistorted high resolution images, allowing physicians to make well informed diagnoses and develop personalized treatment plans for their patients.
“EOSedge represents an innovative breakthrough for musculoskeletal imaging, both in terms of spatial resolution and image contrast, all with a low radiation dose,” said Jed Vanichkachorn, MD, orthopedic surgeon with Bon Secours – Tuckahoe Orthopedics. “The manipulation of these images will allow our providers to better evaluate patients using more complete anatomical data, which will support our process from diagnoses through treatment and post-surgical assessment. And with the low dose radiation, this imaging provides some peace of mind to patients who may be sensitive to radiation.”
The EOSedge system’s open cabin design includes a motorized, enlarged patient platform, which provides a large field of examination and enhanced patient positioning for a comfortable patient experience. Its innovative design minimizes radiation exposure to give providers the insight they need to make well-informed clinical decisions at each point of patient care. Combining cutting-edge X-ray detection technology with low dose radiation modulation and the new open cabin design provides a great new option for both adult and pediatric patients in need of full body or weight-bearing images.
Images from the EOSedge can be developed into 3D models of the spine and lower limbs to assist with clinical decision-making over the entire care pathway. This design helps clinicians better visualize mechanisms between the spine, hip and knee to enhance patient treatment across all stages of care.
“The EOSedge system is a remarkable advancement in musculoskeletal imaging, and it is our privilege to have this technology available to our surgeons and patients across the Richmond region,” said Bryan Lee, president of Bon Secours St. Mary's Hospital, where the EOSedge is located. “This new system will enable us to obtain highly accurate patient data for informed clinical decision-making. We believe this signifies best-in-class care and a tremendous honor to bring this advanced technology to our market.”
The addition of the EOSedge imaging system to Bon Secours expands our breadth of cutting-edge orthopedic offerings in the market. Since the acquisition of Bon Secours Tuckahoe Orthopedics, Bon Secours has continued to pursue advanced technologies to enhance the patient care experience and lead to better outcomes. This state-of-the-art technology not only provides a new low dose radiation option for our patients, but it helps the overall patient experience by improving the diagnostic process for our providers, allowing them to be more precise in their diagnoses and treatment.
The EOSedge is now available at Bon Secours St. Mary’s Hospital.
