Richmond OB/GYN, an obstetrics and gynecology provider of Bon Secours Richmond, has opened a new office on the campus of Bon Secours Richmond Community Hospital in the East End. The outpatient clinic opened on June 1 and is operating Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., located in the Richmond Community Medical Office Building at 1510 N. 28th St., Suite 204, Richmond, Va. 23223.
“Public health data demonstrates health disparities among non-Hispanic Blacks in both preterm birth rates and infant mortality rates, consistent with concerning national trends in maternal and child health. Through our research, it became clear that outpatient OB/GYN services were needed to help improve the health of this community,” said Paula Young, MD, medical director of Bon Secours Richmond Community Hospital and Community Health Access for Bon Secours Richmond. “We are thrilled to establish this new clinic on the campus of Richmond Community Hospital, which will expand much-needed access to prenatal care and help address racial disparities for women in the East End community as well.”
Samuel Campbell, MD, will serve as lead physician of Bon Secours Richmond OB/GYN at Richmond Community Hospital. Dr. Campbell enjoys caring for women from their first gynecology visit to pregnancy care to managing menopause. He is experienced in managing both low-risk and high-risk pregnancies, and has a special interest in abnormal uterine bleeding, management of abnormal pap smears and menopause. Dr. Campbell is board-certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and is trained in minimally invasive surgical techniques, including robotic surgery.
With this outpatient services expansion, Dr. Campbell and Richmond OB/GYN will serve women of all ages in all stages of life on Richmond Community’s campus, providing professional, state-of-the-art medical care, including all areas of obstetrical and gynecological care; urogynecology; three-dimensional and four-dimensional ultrasound; 3-D mammography and pelvic medicine services. Any in-patient services and procedures including baby deliveries and surgical procedures, will be performed at Bon Secours St. Mary’s Hospital.
It is recommended that women have both a primary care provider and an OB/GYN. Well-woman exams are typically short appointments performed by an OB/GYN on an annual basis as part of your preventive care plan and focus primarily on the female reproductive system. It is recommended that women schedule their first well-woman exam by the age of 21, unless there are concerns prior. As part of these exams there are critical screenings for any potential risks that could identify early signs of cervical cancer, ovarian cancer, breast cancer and other gynecological diseases.
In addition to this new location at Richmond Community Hospital, Bon Secours Richmond OB-GYN will continue to operate its locations at St. Mary’s Hospital and St. Francis Medical Center. Bon Secours will also continue to operate obstetrics and gynecology practices at three additional locations across the market: Southside, Colonial Heights and Prince George.
