Bon Secours St. Francis Medical Center in Midlothian has added the Mazor X Stealth™ Edition Robotic Guidance Platform to its hospital, allowing for more precision when it comes to spine surgeries.
The Mazor X Stealth™ Edition Robotic Guidance Platform combines preoperative planning tools and analytics with intraoperative guidance, giving Bon Secours surgeons advanced spinal surgery options.
“As a spine surgeon, I am involved with treating a wide variety of spinal conditions and having technologies like the Mazor X Stealth™ allow us to perform complex procedures with a greater degree of precision through less invasive approaches,” said Jed Vanichkachorn, MD, orthopedic and spine surgeon with Bon Secours – Tuckahoe Orthopedics and medical director of orthopedics for Bon Secours Richmond. “The Mazor X robot is the latest in technological advances in spine surgery that allows us to utilize a robotic arm with GPS-style navigation within the patient's spinal anatomy to place hardware for procedures requiring the spine to be fixated together with screws and rods. The Mazor X allows for greater precision, improved safety, less invasiveness and less pain and blood loss for our patients, as well as shorter hospital stays and better long-term outcomes, improving our overall efficiency when performing these surgeries.”
The Mazor X Stealth™ Edition Robotic Guidance Platform provides surgeons with preoperative planning of the implants and techniques required to treat the patient. Intraoperative trajectory precision means that hardware, such as screws, can be placed safely and in optimal position with added security than before. As spinal surgery has evolved, more focus has been placed on minimally invasive techniques, and this is where the Mazor X Stealth™ Edition Robotic Guidance Platform can deliver its greatest technological benefits.
Minimally invasive procedures with their smaller incisions can pose a challenge to surgeons due to the limited view of the patient’s anatomy. The Mazor X Stealth™ Edition Robotic Guidance Platform helps to overcome this challenge with a 3D comprehensive surgical plan and analytics that give the surgeon comprehensive information and visualization before the surgery starts. This allows surgeons the opportunity for thorough planning to accomplish the job with less dissection and disruption of tissues.
Bon Secours Richmond has established its reputation as a leader in orthopedic and spine surgery with its advanced technologies and excellence in patient care. The Mazor X Stealth™ Edition Robotic Guidance Platform helps us to continue our leadership in spine surgery excellence. In addition to St. Francis Medical Center, Bon Secours St. Mary’s Hospital also utilizes the Mazor X Stealth™ system.
