Bon Secours today announced that John Emery has been named president of Bon Secours Memorial Regional Medical Center and Bon Secours Rappahannock General Hospital, effective July 31. Emery formerly served as the president of Bon Secours Southside Medical Center in Petersburg, Va., and Bon Secours Southern Virginia Medical Center in Emporia, Va.
In his new role, Emery will be responsible for the overall operational success of these two hospitals, while focusing on compassionate, quality patient care.
“It’s an honor to continue my service to this ministry in a new capacity and work with our physicians, associates and community partners to serve the distinct needs of our patients both in and around Hanover County and the Northern Neck,” said Emery. “I am delighted to lead the effort of meeting the changing needs of these communities we serve.”
Emery’s most significant professional achievement has been supporting teams at both Southside Medical Center and Southern Virginia Medical Center, as well as the surrounding communities of both hospitals throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, he led the expansion of service lines at the hospitals at which he has served. These expansions include: a women’s center, Imaging Centers, EP services, Tele-neurology, swing beds, behavioral health to numerous additional providers that expanded access for their specialty in their respective communities.
Emery first joined the health system in 2020 when Bon Secours acquired both Southside Medical Center and Southern Virginia Medical Center from Community Health Systems. During his time with Bon Secours, he demonstrated his ability as a leading hospital administrator by forging excellent relationships with patients, associates and the community.
Prior to his time at Bon Secours, he served communities as disparate as the isolated yet bustling island city of Key West, Cocoa Beach, and a rural, northern Florida town. Emery was tasked with the exceptionally complex job of overseeing a hospital evacuation during Hurricane Irma.
Emery has been a member of various community civic organizations the course of his career, including local Rotary clubs, Kiwanis and United Way. Emery is also very involved with Relay for Life events through the American Cancer Society.
