Bon Secours Rappahannock General Hospital Celebrates Construction Kickoff of
Cancer Clinic and Outpatient Infusion Center with Wall Breaking Ceremony
KILMARNOCK, Va. (October 28, 2024) –Bon Secours leaders and community members joined together on October 25th for a ceremonial wall breaking to kick off construction of a new cancer clinic and outpatient infusion center (OPIC) on the campus of Bon Secours Rappahannock General Hospital (RGH). This expansion is a continuation of a years-long renovation and expansion at RGH, funded by community donations and investment from Bon Secours, which has already celebrated the completion of a new hospital entrance, lobby, reception area, emergency department and café since breaking ground in 2021.
“We are thrilled to launch this next phase of construction at Rappahannock General, which will allow us to offer more comprehensive cancer care, closer to home for so many of our patients,” said Alan Bailey, vice president administrator, Bon Secours Rappahannock General Hospital. “The support this community has showed RGH during our renovation and expansion project has been overwhelming, and we are so grateful for their continued support. We are proud to celebrate yet another milestone as we ensure that we are meeting the needs of our community and are able to offer quality, compassionate care for many years to come.”
This next phase of construction is focused on renovating a vacant building on the campus of RGH which will be outfitted to offer comprehensive, on-site cancer care. Receiving a cancer diagnosis is a vulnerable and uncertain time, often involving many appointments and consulting with a personalized care team to decide a course of treatment. Receiving treatments close to home through an Outpatient Infusion Center is one way that patients in the Northern Neck and surrounding areas are able to bring some semblance of comfort or control to their cancer journey. Along with this renovation and expansion is the ability to modernize the equipment available to better care for our community when they need us most. While construction of this new space is underway, Bon Secours will continue to care for patients out of its existing clinic and OPIC locations. No patient care will be impacted during this construction.
“Cancer care is a field that is rapidly changing as we continuously learn more about this disease and the best ways to care for our patients. By combining our cancer clinic and infusion center at RGH into one shared state-of-the-art facility, we’ll be able to enhance the compassionate care we strive to deliver our patients each and every day,” saidCameron Wood, MD, oncologist, Bon Secours Cancer Institute at Rappahannock General Hospital. “We look forward to continuing to grow our clinical practice and expertise at RGH thanks to the support offered by the community and by Bon Secours."
This renovation has been made possible by many generous contributions from the community. Having first reached its $15 million philanthropic goal to provide the funding needed to complete the renovation and expansion a full year ahead of schedule in 2022, Bon Secours then announced a new goal of $20 million for the Campaign for Rappahannock General Hospital. Bon Secours leaders thanked the community for its generous and steadfast support, announcing that this $20 million goal has been met. Additional monies raised for the Campaign for Rappahannock General will further assist in funding the remaining components of the expansion and renovation project, which involves updating other priority areas of the hospital including inpatient wing, courtyard garden and modernizing the entire facility.
