Nuclear medicine uses low-level radioactive materials to help physicians diagnose a variety diseases and disorders. These radioactive materials can be given by injection, inhalation, or swallowing. The material accumulates in a specific organ, bone, or tissue within the body. As a result, the affected organ, bone, or tissue, emit radiation that is detected by our highly sensitive equipment. Nuclear imaging can be used to evaluate the function of the heart, bones, brain, liver, lung, kidneys, gallbladder, and spleen.
