About
Jed S. Vanichkachorn, MD, MBA, MSHA-CPE is a member of the Spine Team at Bon Secours -Tuckahoe Orthopedics. He earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia. He received his orthopaedic training at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. He then went on to complete a Spine Reconstruction Fellowship at the Spine & Scoliosis Center in Baltimore. (A fellowship is a specialized training program that a physician chooses to pursue after completing medical school and residency training.)
Dr. Vanichkachorn (also known as Dr. Van by his patients) and his medical staff treat adult patients with neck and back problems. Many of his patients benefit from conservative treatments and minimally invasive surgical procedures. If more complex surgery is required, he is skilled and experienced with the most up-to-date surgical techniques. He currently performs approximately 400 spinal surgeries a year, with 40-45% of these being minimally invasive procedures. Some of the more common procedures include spinal fusions, cervical and lumbar disc replacements, kyphoplasty’s, and sacroiliac bone fusions.
Dr. Vanichkachorn is an active member of many professional societies, including North American Spine Society, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the Virginia Orthopaedic Society.
Research is near and dear to Dr. Vanichkachorn’s heart. He has been involved with 6 clinical research studies to date and is always looking for research study opportunities for his patients.
Dr. Vanichkachorn became the first spine surgeon in Richmond to perform robotic surgery using the Mazor Robotics Renaissance Guidance System. He continues to champion robotic surgery in the Richmond area and has completed over 1,200 procedures.
Dr. Vanichkachorn has received Top Doc honors through Richmond Magazine every year since 2014. The past two years he has also received Best Bedside Manner awards through OurHealth Magazine. Dr. Vanichkachorn was recently named a 2024 Top Doctor by Virginia Business magazine.
He grew up in South Hill, Virginia. His father is a retired orthopaedic surgeon. Dr. Vanichkachorn initially worked in his father’s practice after completing his fellowship training. He made the decision to join Tuckahoe Orthopaedics several years later so he could devote his practice entirely to the treatment of spinal conditions.
“As I watched my father treat orthopaedic patients for over 26 years, I developed a keen appreciation of the importance of getting people out of pain. My philosophy is to utilize the least invasive therapies, whether non-operative or operative, to get patients out of suffering and back into an active lifestyle” says Dr. Vanichkachorn.
Dr. Vanichkachorn is very physically active and has now completed sixteen Ironman Triathlons including two Ironman World Championships. He received his MBA from William and Mary and most recently received his MSHA from Virginia Commonwealth University. He is married to Dr. Ann Vanichkachorn who is currently working as the Director of Health and Wellness at St. Christopher’s School where their two sons attend high school.
