Bon Secours Mary Immaculate Hospital Earns American Nurses Credentialing Center Pathway To Excellence Re-Designation

Monday, January 18, 2016

Bon Secours Virginia Health System is pleased to announce that Bon Secours Mary Immaculate Hospital, located in Newport News, Virginia has achieved the Pathway to Excellence® re-designation by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).

Pathway to Excellence designation identifies the elements of work environments where nurses can flourish and identifies Bon Secours Mary Immaculate as one of the best places to work.  The hospital originally earned this prestigious status in 2010 as the first hospital in the Hampton Roads community to receive this designation.

“We are very honored to be recognized once again by the ANCC as a Pathways to Excellence hospital," said Jeffrey N. Doucette, DNP, RN, CENP, LNHA, FACHE, NEA-BC, Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer for Bon Secours Mary Immaculate.  “This designation reflects the continuing hard work and collaboration of our nursing team since our designation in 2012.  We remain committed to the professional practices that enhance nursing engagement and ultimately improves our patients outcomes.”

The Pathway to Excellence designation is granted based on the confirmed presence of characteristics known as “The Pathway to Excellence Criteria.”  For an organization to earn the Pathway to Excellence distinction, it must successfully undergo a thorough review process that documents foundational quality initiatives in creating a positive work environment — as defined by nurses and supported by research. These initiatives must be present in the facility’s practices, policies, and culture. Nurses in the organization verify the presence of the criteria in the organization through participation in a completely confidential online survey.

As a Pathway to Excellence® designated organization, Bon Secours Mary Immaculate is committed to nurses, to what nurses identify as important to their practice, and to valuing nurses’ contributions in the workplace. The honor encourages other nurses to join their colleagues in this desirable and nurturing environment.
