Bon Secours Volunteers Give 1850 Free Flu Shots Image

As part of Bon Secours’ mission to improve community health through prevention and education, more than 100 employees volunteered their time on Saturday, September 29 to give out approximately 1,850 free flu shots to the Hampton Roads community during the health system’s annual Free Drive-Thru Flu Shot Day event.

Drivers were able to get a shot without getting out their wallet or even getting out of their car at four locations in Hampton Roads: Bon Secours DePaul Medical Center in Norfolk, Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center in Portsmouth, Bon Secours Mary Immaculate Hospital in Newport News and Bon Secours Health Center at Harbour View in Suffolk.

The Centers for Disease Control recommends that everyone above the age of 6 months gets vaccinated from the flu each year. Bon Secours is committed to making the flu vaccine more accessible to all members of our community to reduce the chances of a wide-spread flu epidemic.

Bon Secours was the first local health system to offer drive-thru flu shots starting in 2008 and continued the tradition of removing barriers to preventive care by being the first local health system to offer free shots in 2012.
