Your endocrinologist works closely with your primary care physician when specific conditions may be present. They’ll assist your general care team in the diagnosis and treatments of diseases affecting the endocrine system. Most commonly, patients who are diabetic and prediabetic will see an endocrinologist after being referred by an internal medicine provider.
