Preparing for an Emergency Department Visit

While visits to the Emergency Department (ED) can be unexpected, being prepared can help ensure a smooth process. Please bring the following items with you to your ED visit:

· The name and contact information of your primary care physician.

· A valid identification and insurance card

· A complete list of all current medications, including dosages and frequency of use.

· A list of any over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and supplements, such as pain relievers or herbal products

· A record of any known allergies and chronic medical conditions

· The name and location of your pharmacy

What to Expect During Your Visit

Check-In: Upon arrival, you will check in with a registrar who will ask for your personal information and the main reason for seeking medical care.

Triage: A nurse will assess your condition through a process known as triage. During this time, you will be asked about your symptoms, medical history, and any current medications.

Assessment: A healthcare provider will evaluate your symptoms and may order diagnostic tests, such as blood work or X-rays, to better understand your condition.

Treatment: Based on the results of your assessment, you will receive treatment, which may include medications, wound care, or additional procedures as needed.

Admission or Discharge: Once treatment is completed, you may be discharged with instructions for follow-up care or admitted to the hospital for further evaluation and treatment if necessary.
