Bon Secours Liver Institute of Hampton Roads
Welcome to the Bon Secours Liver Institute of Hampton Roads, a department of Maryview Medical Center.
The Bon Secours Liver Institute of Hampton Roads, a part of the Bon Secours Health System of Virginia, opened for patient care in April 2010. Dr. Mitchell Shiffman and his associates are now providing medical care for patients with all forms of acute and chronic liver disease. This includes treatment for all forms of chronic viral hepatitis, fatty liver disease, liver cirrhosis and its complications, and hepatocellular carcinoma. They also provide care before and following liver transplantation eliminating the need for patients to travel long distances for care at various liver transplant centers.
The mission of the Bon Secours Liver Institute is to offer the best and most comprehensive care for patients with liver disease. Our goal is to educate patients about liver disease and liver disease symptoms that are affecting their health. We offer patients the newest and most effective treatments for liver disease by participating in clinical trials.
A leader in the care of patients with liver disease, Mitchell Shiffman, MD and his staff have developed long-standing relationships with pharmaceutical companies and have significant experience in conducting clinical trials to their patients’ benefit. At the Bon Secours Liver Institute, clinical research positively influences outcomes by providing their patients with potentially highly effective medications that would not be available by prescription for several additional years. Among the clinical trials offered is a revolutionary new trial that uses oral anti-viral medications to treat and cure HCV without peg interferon injections
In addition to these treatments, they offer additional liver health services including:
- Hepatitis vaccinations
- Pre-transplantation care and coordination
- Management of chronic liver disease and liver disease symptoms
