Bon Secours Senior Emergency Departments are designed to provide good help to patients, families and caregivers in an environment created to reduce anxiety and enhance safety. From the moment you walk in the door, our compassionate care and diverse range of specialized services will follow you until you are discharged. Senior Emergency Departments are available at St. Mary’s and St. Francis hospitals, and coming soon to Memorial Regional Medical Center.

Every patient over the age of 65 is screened by the nurse and emergency room physician, and if the patient meets criteria, will be referred to the senior services emergency department team for additional services.

St. Mary's Emergency Department

Thirty percent of the patients seen at St. Mary's Emergency Department are over the age of 64. All of our adult rooms are senior friendly:

  • Light switch dimmers for comfort
  • Rooms with glass doors rather than curtains for privacy and noise reduction
  • Large clocks and whiteboards on the walls to maintain orientation
  • Thicker mattresses to prevent skin breakdown and provide comfort
  • Non-glare and non-skid floors
  • Handrails in hallways to help prevent falls
  • Warming gowns for extra comfort
