About Robotic Surgery

Robotic surgery enables surgeons to translate their hand movements into smaller, more precise movements using tiny instruments. The da Vinci Surgical System combines a 3D high-definition vision system with small instruments which can bend and rotate a full 360 degrees, far greater than the human hand which they’re replicating. This allows your surgeon more precision and control. It’s great for patients, because incisions are smaller and often, outcomes are better than traditional open surgeries.

During robotic surgery, the surgeon uses a console to control four interactive robotic arms.

The da Vinci robot was the first robotic surgical system approved by the FDA for general laparoscopic surgery in 2000, and today, more than 200,000 da Vinci surgeries are performed each year.

Benefits of Robotic Surgery

The da Vinci procedure can offer benefits of a minimally invasive procedure, including:

  • Less pain and scarring from smaller incisions
  • Less blood loss and reduced need for blood transfusions
  • Reduced risk of infection
  • Shorter hospital stay
  • Shorter recovery time and quicker resumption of normal activities
