Bon Secours – Southside Medical Center Emergency Department
Bon Secours – Southside Medical Center's ER is equipped to care for all types of emergencies 24-hours a day and is the only Trauma Center in the Tri-Cities and southern Virginia. Bon Secours – Southside Medical Center treats more than 61,000 ER patients a year and with more than 380 physicians on staff representing more than 40 specialties, the hospital is equipped to handle an array of medical emergencies.
Bon Secours – Southside Medical Center's emergency department boasts two trauma rooms and two cardiac care rooms for patients requiring a higher level of care. The ER offers a radiology suite for routine imaging, three strategically located nursing stations, private and spacious treatment rooms and a wireless nurse-call system that provides more efficient nursing care. Using an advanced computer system at bedside, the physician and nurse can quickly track treatment, thus providing timely, effective care. We have been named a Primary Stroke Center by The Joint Commission as well as an accredited Chest Pain Center with Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) by the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care. Bon Secours – Southside Medical Center is also a State Designated Trauma Center.
A helipad for medical flights is located near the trauma unit and a decontamination treatment area for patients exposed to hazardous material offers a comfortable, private care environment.
After nearly 30 years as a critical resource for adults and children impacted by violence, Bon Secours’ Forensic Nursing Program takes on a new name to include new, expanded advocacy services.
In order to ensure the health and safety of our patients, visitors, associates and medical providers, we have a temporary policy in place reducing the entrance points to all seven of our hospitals in the Richmond market.
