Our Philosophy of Education:
- Adult learners are responsible for their learning experience.
- During the CPE unit, each student enters a co-creative learning covenant with the ACPE Certified Educator and their peers to meet the ACPE outcomes and indicators for Levels IA, IB, IIA and IIB.
- In CPE, the clinical setting and the CPE cohort serve as catalysts for students’ relational learning experiences.
- Our basic educative assumption is that everyone within the CPE peer group has something to teach and something to learn. Also, CPE students are expected to learn from patients, families and teammates.
- To learn, grow and develop in CPE requires humility, curiosity, vulnerability and critical thinking. The primary resources we use include individual experiences, introspection, cultural immersion, creative expressions and dialogue.
- In CPE we work with people’s stories, emotions, feelings, experiences and theories to assist students in developing their self-awareness, self-understanding and personal/professional identities.
- CPE is an intense, experiential, co-creative and transformational form of education.
